This prevents other users from accessing the spec from the Component Preferences toolbar. This is a technote showing what settings to change. Solution The first thing that you need to do when intending to use a Microsoft Access database in a shared environment is to put it in shared mode. This can be done by using the following steps: Open MS Access. Select the menu: Tools Options, which opens the Options dialog box: Click on the Advanced tab if it is not already showing and make your way to the Default Open Mode selection box. Check the 'shared' option as shown above. This will then open all databases in shared mode by default. This means that you don't have to go through this exercise every time you create/open a new database. Note: The dialog looks a little different in MS Access 2007 but the option is still there in the advanced tab. Make sure this is checked on each workstation.
