Correct. By design, utility lines are unintelligent.
The best way to handle inline components, such as the valves you mentioned, are to place the valves.
CATT on them and fill out the desired size value. It will show up on the DWG and if you place a valve list, it will recognize the valves as well.
So, I think the best soultion is to again, CATT on teh valves and fill out the saze value.
