This can happen when a user us working with duel displays at one point, such as working with a laptop that is docked, with the Component Preferences located on the secondary monitor. If this laptop is then moved to another area and reduced to 2 displays, there is a possibility that the Component Preferences dialog will get lost to the other display, which is no longer there. There are other ways that this dialog can get lost. In this TechNote are a few ways that this issue can be fixed. Possible Fixes Changing the resolution of the computer can sometimes push the dialog back over to the main display. Be sure that Piping is fully loaded before attempting this to make sure that the shift in resolution is done while the dialog is loaded up. From AutoCAD 2004 and up, the information for where the Components Preferences dialog is stored the file "FixedProfile.aws". This file is rebuilt if it is not located in its default path here - "C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2004\R16.0\Support\Profiles". If the file is delete, it will replace the default settings and the Component Preferences will be docked back in the left hand side. This trick can also help fix issues dealing with the Component Preferences dialog where it does not load at all, rather then just being off the viewing area. Use the following key combinations to move the dialog : 1. Start the command that brings up the dialog 2. When the dialog should appear Press ALT+Space 3. Press M for Move 4. Use the arrow keys or the mouse to move the dialog back onto the viewable screen See Also Product TechNotes and FAQs Plant TechNotes And FAQs External Links Bentley Technical Support KnowledgeBase Bentley LEARN Server Comments or Corrections?
