Forum Post: Re: OPPID: connecting pipe segment to flange connection

Wim Aerts,

I am assuming you are using the Flange Connection in the Piping Components task. This Flange Connection is not intelligent. It serves to show a break in the pipeline. As you noted this does not highlight. As a comparison look at a valve in a pipe run. Select the run and the valve does not highlight. The valve is a related in-run component for the run but it does not highlight.

My suggestions:

  1.  Do not draw the nozzle - draw a pipeline, start it or end it at the equipment - the nozzle is placed automatically. Add the Flange Connection at the end of  the pipeline using a different Connect Point at placement time. This way the line is related to the nozzle and the equipment.
  2.  Draw the nozzle and then add the pipeline. Add the Flange Connection as defined in option 1.
  3.  Create a new nozzle that has the Flange Connection as a part of the nozzle cell. This will allow the flange connection to show as well as    establish relationship. You can also set up nozzles so that the user is prompted to select the desired nozzle from all of the nozzle types that are available.

To do this edit the schema as follows: Locate the EQUIPMENT class. (You can also locate specific types of equipment by selecting a more specific class.) On the class note the Auto Nozzle Class Name custom attribute. If you leave the attribute on the class but edit the Class Name field and leave it empty, a dialog will appear at placement time and allow the user to pick the desired nozzle.
