Hello, It is just part of flexibility that allows you to have different type of descriptive information associated with the component that can later be used in Reports, Bill of Materials or Isometrics. The long description could have full information of the component (technical, chemical, geometrical) when short description could have only schedule and size. It is good to have full information of the component but this information is not required in Bill of Material or in Reports , so there is an option to use short description that will not overweight report with unnecessary information, and will have only required information. This is one of the possible scenarios that I can think of where short and long description would be useful. I hope this information will be help. Regards, Artiom
